Literature Assessment
By Jens Allmer
Lost in Translation
When reading scientific literature from a field other than our own, we can misinterpret information. For example, we may overlook keywords that are glaringly obvious to someone versed in the field.
Translating such information to the general public can then become tricky. Additionally, when writing newspapers or articles for popular journals, they must also sell, so we might oversell some of the information in the scientific articles to the general public.
Whenever this translates to health choices for the consumer, we need to be highly cautious. This is the motivation, and I will occasionally comment on something I find in popular literature. If I find that the cited scientific literature should be more cautious, I will discuss that.
